Engineering Day was held at the Hilton Reykjavík Nordica Hotel on Friday, November 17. One of the items on the agenda was a talk by Leó Sigurðsson and Böðvar Tómasson entitled “Safety in Design”.

Safety by Design is a systematic approach to identifying and managing risk at the design stage of a project or process. It is important to include safety measures in the design of structures, equipment and processes to prevent accidents and damage as well as reducing the severity of incidents that may occur, e.g. in construction, production processes or operation of structures. The methodology and examples of such an approach at the design level were presented, which is something of a novelty in the Icelandic market.
