Crowd assessment for the inauguration of the new Icelandic president

In June, Iceland elected a new president, Halla Tómasdóttir. She took office as the 7th president of Iceland, and the second female president in Iceland’s history. The inauguration, which took place on the 1st of August, required meticulous preparation for crowd safety and security. ÖRUGG Consulting Engineers was trusted with the evacuation and crowd assessment, incorporating evacuation planning as well as security requirements at this high-profile event in Iceland.

The new parliament office and assembly building Smiðja, opened this spring, provided a new dimension for invited guests. Böðvar Tómasson, founder and CEO of ÖRUGG, was responsible for the design of fire safety and security for the building, which set a new level of overall safety and security.
