The International Federation for Structural Concrete, FIB (Fédération internationale du béton), recently published a technical bulletin titled Performance-based fire design of concrete structures. The authors of the manual are an international group of experts from eight different countries, including Atli Rútur Þorsteinsson from ÖRUGG Consulting Engineers.

In recent decades, intensive research has been performed regarding fire resistance of concrete structures, increasing knowledge in the field. The aim of the technical bulletin is to support the performance-based design of fire protection based on the latest scientific knowledge in this field. The manual discusses thermodynamic and mechanical properties of concrete, as well as presenting methods for the use of computational models and statistical analyses for the performance-based designof structures in case of fire, a field in which ÖRUGG has considerable expertise.
